Bio:

David Voggenhuber, is a vienna based figurative artist., born in Salzburg who follows the principle, that drawing is the origin of all fine arts and more. With his bigscale drawings he established the fact that drawing is an artform of its own equal to painting, sculpturing, and film.

After his master degree (Alfred Hridlicka) given by the university of Applied Art, Vienna he elaborated his skills in Leipzig, London and Istanbul where he lived and worked for several years bevore returning to Vienna.

In this time he developed his skillset towards painting, sculpturing and achitecture wich are now integrated parts of his work.

While his drawings mainly spotlighting the dark side of human existence, his paintings and sculptures do quite the opposite. Bright, funny, ironic but still truthfull, serious, and dignified.

He always uses minimal materials and techniques to not intigue the human face, wich he masterfully presents in a unique light to engage with your inner self.

Artist statement:

I look at life in the face of death and violence, in love and tenderness.

I gain to portray human life in situations in wich the people involved are challanged to the maximum, be it in a dispute or in an encounter of any kind. Where people are most questioned and they have no other option than to show themselfs, I look out for this moment, I translate it and capture it on canvas or paper.

In addition to my observertions, analysis and a sober, rational view, I use the simplest means and techniques, clear classical compositions and do without any effect. This enables me and the viewer of my pictures and sculptures to show and see people unvarnished, directly and truthfully. This is not done without irony and tenderness and always with dignity. The viewers gaze is therefore uninterrupted and directly focused on the events depicted.

This is my interpretation of art. That is my job as an artist. That is the essence of my work, no matter what form I find for it. All techniques of art are allways open to me with this agenda.
